Robot name:

General

Year of creation:

2013

Category:

Middleweight (120lb)

Type:

Vertical spinner

Story:

The new Middleweight project is inspired by the victorious Federal M.T. Lightweight category. Debuting at the world robotics championship (RoboGames), General surprised in his category, winning the silver medal.

The structure is made up of rectangular sections of different dimensions in Aluminum 7075 – T6 in different thicknesses. Its connections are made from precision fittings, specially designed so that the assembly is faster, easier and more accurate. Such structural geometry makes the robot sturdy and robust enough for its category.

Seeking to minimize the possible damage caused by the opponent, two different forms of frontal protection were designed, based on studies made by the team analyzing the different weapon configurations of the possible opponents. Also in order to enhance the blow applied, the different frontal shields aim to raise the opponent’s front, removing him from the ground and bringing him to meet the discs.

With two discs with only one tooth, this design had to be carefully balanced so that the weapon’s center of gravity coincided with its axis of rotation. The material chosen to compose the discs and the axle of the weapon is SAE 4340 steel, widely used in the team’s projects due to its favorable characteristics for the application of the weapon.

Build report 2020:

Initially the project used a pair of wheels on each side, but after many problems in competition the wheels were changed to a vulcanized pair, much more resistant and durable, in addition to being lighter than the original wheels of the project. The same wheels were also placed on the Federal M.T. and Black Dragon and have been used extensively in the team’s projects.
